70 students from Sherborne preparatory school enjoyed four days with Regatta Sailing Academy at the end of February 2018.
The lucky students received a briefing upon arrival at the academy base in Katara and were issued with their safety equipment, there to look after for the session.
The teams were then chosen with the students leading the way to evenly fill the boats being taken. Lunches were loaded onto the safety fleet and the fleet departed Katara by 9am each day.
The fleet then sailed the hour out to the island, getting used to the boats and figuring out how to work as a team to successfully navigate their craft the 5km and try to beat their peers.
Upon arrival at the island the teams furled their sails and enjoyed a short lunch on their desert island, followed by an exploration of this new land to see what bounty there may be.
Once the island has been scoured for its treasures the sailors rigged their boats for the return journey from the island back to Katara and the Regatta Sailing Academy base.
All of the sailors successfully made the return journey and made landfall back in Katara. Once at the Regatta Sailing Academy beach the successful seafarers derided their boats, unloaded the remnants of their provisions from the safety fleet and departed for home with many new skills and memories.
Congratulations to all of the year 5 Sherborne prep sailors who made the trip to the island and back, we look forward to seeing you again next year!
